The open retest: a direction, and how far first

When a candle breaks the last candle’s high or low, MORE switches on. It marks that candle’s open, and how often breaks like this came back to it before the candle ended. The odds are set the moment the break happens, and they’re specific to the timeframe and to the side that broke.

So a high-odds break above points back down, toward the open. That’s your directional bias. The extension zones show how far past breaks stretched before they turned.

Once price touches the open, the job is done: MORE clears that break’s drawings, so the chart only ever shows what’s still in play.

Why percentiles, not the average ± standard deviations

The usual way to draw a “normal” range is the average plus or minus a few standard deviations. That works for a bell curve. Stretches past a break aren’t one.

They have a long tail. Most stretch less than the average, because every so often one runs a long way, and that drags the average up and the deviation further still. So the first deviation band sits too far out for a normal stretch, the second still falls short of the extremes, and the lower bands land below the break itself, where no stretch can be.

A percentile just counts what happened, to breaks that came back to the open.

A real break, drawn the way MORE draws it

The break, the zones and the Stat Zone

A real 4-hour candle on a 5-minute chart. It took out the last candle’s high, and MORE drew the open with its retest odds, 81.8%, and the five zones above. Price turned between the 50th and 75th edges, inside the optional Stat Zone, where about half of all past turns have landed.

At the turn. The dashed box is the Stat Zone. The mint circles mark the same high on the chart and on the 4-hour candle.

The touch: tested opens clear themselves

Then price came back to the open. At the close of that bar, the zones, the Stat Zone and the line were gone. In Live drawing mode MORE shows only what’s still in play; switch to Historic to keep every drawing for review.

Every open still in play, on one screen

MORE doesn’t stop at one timeframe. Every timeframe from the 1-hour to the 12-hour that has broken its last high or low draws its own open line and odds, and the dashboard lists them: which side broke, the deepest zone price has reached, the retest odds, and whether price is inside its time step. A touched open clears; when a candle ends, its open goes too.

These examples were picked to show each idea clearly. Breaks like them go both ways; MORE shows the odds, it doesn’t call the turn.

The Time Staircase: when turns clustered

Zones show where past breaks turned. The Time Staircase adds when. Each zone band gets its own step, starting at the break, and deeper stretches have historically taken longer to turn.

The dashboard’s Box column reads Step while price is inside a band and inside that band’s step, and staircase alerts can tell you when price enters one.

9 in 10turns that landed inside a band came inside its step. Treat it as the upper end: in recent years turns have come a little later. The step shows when turns clustered, not whether one is coming.

A small retest can start a much bigger turn

A higher-timeframe pivot high has to take out the last high first, so MORE switches on. The pivot candle makes its high and its wick right there, then price comes back through the open. The next candle can carry on down and confirm the pivot.

So a small move to a high-odds open can be the start of a much bigger turn. You can use the open retest to take profit, or move to breakeven.

The same real 4-hour break: a small move back to the open, then the candle fell from its high and the next 4-hour candle made a lower high and a lower low.
The same real 4-hour break, start to finish. The move back to the open was 0.17%. From its high, that candle fell 0.81%, and the next 4-hour candle made a lower high and a lower low: a 4-hour pivot high. The mint circles mark the high (chart and 4-hour candle) and the next candle’s low.

Filter the noise, and let alerts do the watching

Set a retest threshold, say 70, and MORE only draws breaks with odds at or above it. Apply it to the dashboard too, and the other timeframes’ lines and entries follow. The noise goes; what’s left are the higher-odds breaks.

Then let alerts do the watching:

  • New breaksa high or low break on each timeframe you choose
  • Zone crossesprice crossing the 25th, 50th, 75th, 85th or 95th
  • Time stepsprice entering a band inside its step

Questions

What does MORE actually show?

When a candle on the 1-hour to the 12-hour breaks the last candle’s high or low, MORE marks that candle’s open with the odds that breaks like this came back to it, and draws five percentile zones for how far price stretched before it turned. The dashboard shows the same for every timeframe at once.

What is the open retest?

Price coming back to the candle’s own open after the break, before that candle ends. A high-odds break above points back down toward the open; a high-odds break below points back up. That’s the directional bias MORE gives you.

Do the odds or the zones repaint?

No. They’re set the moment the break happens and don’t move. In Live drawing mode they’re removed once the open is touched, or when the candle ends, so the chart only shows what’s still in play. Historic mode keeps every drawing for review.

Which timeframes does it cover?

Twelve: the 1-hour through the 12-hour. Set the zone timeframe in the settings; on a chart of one hour or lower the dashboard lists all twelve.

What is the Stat Zone?

An optional box inside the zones, off by default, that marks where about half of all past turns before a return to the open landed. Switch it on in the settings.

What is the Time Staircase?

A step per zone band, starting at the break, for when turns at that depth have tended to come: when a turn landed inside a band, about 9 in 10 came inside its step. The dashboard’s Box column reads Step while price is inside a band and inside its step, and staircase alerts can tell you when price enters one.

What does the threshold do?

Set a retest threshold, for example 70, and MORE only draws breaks with odds at or above it. Switch on the dashboard option too, and the other timeframes’ lines and dashboard entries follow the same threshold.

Which markets does it work on?

MORE is built from 18 years of futures data and draws on any TradingView chart. If you’re unsure whether it suits your market, ask in the Discord before you subscribe.

Is MORE a signal?

No. It shows how often breaks like the one in front of you came back to the open, and how far they ran first. It doesn’t tell you what to do, and past odds aren’t a promise about the next candle.
